The House

The moment attorney Sarah Anderson walks into the once-grand mansion on San Francisco’s famed Nob Hill, she falls head over heels in love. Built by a wealthy Frenchman for the woman he adored nearly 100 years ago, she’s certain its aging walls hold thrilling secrets. Having inherited a small fortune from an eccentric benefactor who implored her to use the money for something wonderful, Sarah makes an uncharacteristic spur-of-the-moment decision and buys it! Unfortunately her non-committal lover is antagonistic about her purchase, especially when Sarah hires handsome architect Jeff Parker to return the mansion to its former glory.

It’s the history of the house that enchants Sarah, as well as the opulence that remains unfazed by time. She can just imagine the balls, the gowns…and the drama, especially when she learns that the woman for whom it was built left her home—and her child—under mysterious circumstances. Jeff shares Sarah’s passion for the project, and she can’t fail to notice his interest in her as well, although he, too, is involved with someone else. As they work together to restore the mansion, will loyal Sarah, immersed in the past, be able to imagine a different future?

With her unrivaled storytelling prowess, Danielle Steel leaves us breathless with anticipation as Sarah makes a stunning discovery about “the house”…and her heart.

Repetitive

This book, though having a great story line drama, is very repetivite and predictable. It was a fair read. I did like the descriptions of the house and would have loved to have had more detail about that. Overall I gave 3 stars simply because I did finish reading it.

House
November 07, 2009

I loved what they did with the house and how it brought them together along with her family. I thought she was a very kind person and I hated the first guy she was with. I senced he was just using her from the begining. The house seemed to make her happy and I loved the way it brought them together in the end.

I really enjoyed this book! I have been reading DS for years and will continue to do so. This story kept me interested...the descriptions of the house made me want to enter the pages and tour it myself! I liked the character of Sarah. Finished this in a day and a half-looking forward to her next book.

I have read most of Danielle Steel's books. This is a good book. Not one of her greatest, but still a good read.
