Jude Deveraux’s Lavender Morning is the first book in a breathtaking new series.
Jocelyn was very young when her mother, who forswore her inheritance to marry a local handyman, died. Her father’s remarriage to a woman from a background similar to his own brought Jocelyn to the attention of Edilean Harcourt. The wealthy spinster made the girl her protégée, and often regaled her with stories of the man she loved and lost during the war. But years later, when Jocelyn inherits Miss Edi’s home in Virginia, she finds a note from her dear friend promising that there, waiting, would be her one true love. Instead, Jocelyn soon finds two men vying for her affections—and the stunning solution to a mystery that will change her life forever.

I bought this book because I thought it was a mystery and it was, but it was a love story first. I'm generally not overly fond of love stories but this held my interest throughout the book.
I wish that the author had developed the secondary characters a bit more than she did. I think then it would have been even more interesting. The plot was a bit weak as well and the resolution was a bit ho-hum.

I started looking for the next book in this series as soon as I finished this one. I really enjoyed the story
and hope the future books continue with the characters
from this book.

I see from previous reviews that we all had the same feeling-absolutely great. The first book I read by Jude was Secrets and that made me want to read additional books by her. I anxiouxly await the next book in this series.
