Misfortune has followed Sarah Crane ever since the death of her mother sent her father into an alcoholic daze. Now he’s in jail and the young teen, left in the care of a mean-spirited foster family, has never felt so alone. Alienated at school as well, the only attention Sarah receives is from another outcast, classmate Nick Dunnigan, and an eccentric art teacher, who gives Sarah painting lessons at her isolated old mansion. But as Sarah spends more time within its crumbling walls, monstrous images from the house’s dark history emerge. Once a prison, it is filled with malevolent ghosts. And as Sarah soon discovers, she and Nick have the power to control them....and take revenge.
House of Reckoning is John Saul at his scariest best.

I have read John Saul through the years. Some are very good, others not so good. This is one of the very good ones. When I started reading I really could not put it down. Finished it in one evening.
Very good read!

I realy like this one I could not put it down till it was done. I will say that the end was missing a little something. Maybe her dad could have gotten out or something. But my son and I have read most all of his books. We both think this would make a good movie. Good Job.

I loved this book! Like some other reviewers here, I just couldn't put this book down. It kept me interested right up to the end of it. I have been a John Saul fan for years and he didn't disappoint me with this book. Now I can't wait for his next one!

I've been a John Saul fan for years. I was a little disappointed in this book. The final chapter seemed to tie up loose ends without making much sense of them. The characters were not believable. They were either all good or all bad which isn't very realistic. I hope his next book is better.
