In Kindred in Death, Nora Roberts signs in as J.D. Robb to take us back to the future, where the new NYPSD captain is reeling from his daughter’s murder. But the pressure Lt. Eve Dallas feels to find the killer doesn’t come as much from her boss as from memories of her own rape years ago, and she jumps on the one clue they have: Deena knew her assailant. When Deena’s best friend reveals she had a secret boyfriend, Eve is off and running, calling in support from her millionaire husband Roarke. Only when another body turns up, and then another, does Eve realize that the perp is toying with her, using different identities to tease and taunt. But Eve knows that overconfidence leads to mistakes, and all she needs is one to take him down.

while i love the Eve Dallas character and most story lines, i am getting tired of every plot recalling her horrific childhood.
